PROJECT INTRODUCTION
Photography Emulation Project
2022
the brief
Choose a photographer to emulate for your final portfolio project. Either borrow ideas and concepts of the photographer or try and recreate their style in your own imagery.
my process
I didn't know too much about the science behind double exposure photography, so I just started shooting. For two rolls, I shot people and architecture first and once the roll was finished, I would reload my camera and shoot florals and nature on the same roll. For the two other rolls, I did the opposite. I shot florals and nature first and then people and architecture.
I did this to experiment and see which method would create the best results. With my final images, I discovered that both methods worked and results depended on the highlights and shadows captured with the first image.
I was pleasantly surprised at the end result of my project as many images were visually appealing and captured what I was trying to emulate. I would like to try and experiment more with double exposure photography, taking a closer look at what factors will make a more successful image.

photographer
emulating
It took me awhile to figure out which photographer I wanted to emulate. There were a handful of styles I was interested in and wanted to try, but eventually I landed on the idea of doing double exposures. Once I had an idea on which style I wanted to do, I researched photographers who specialized in that area. I landed on Japanese photographer, Takeshi Suga. I was drawn to his work because of the bright colors and his use of florals in his exposures. Since he specialized in shooting his double exposures in 35mm film, I also decided to follow suit and shoot my project on film also.
